Intermittent watercourses

Streams and drainage swales that carry water only part of the year; where they cross a property, a strip cannot be farmed.

Also: Drainage swale · Intermittent stream

These are the watercourses the IGN surveyed as intermittent: streams and drainage swales that flow after rain and dry up in the dry season. On the plains they are the path by which the land drains, even if no water is visible for most of the year.

The property report deducts a 20-metre strip along each one that crosses the property from the usable area, just as with perennial ones. The width is a convention: the layer contains lines, not the width of the low ground.

Not all of them are here. Many small drainage swales do not appear in IGN mapping. The map showing none does not prove the property has no low ground where water runs.
